application help;
An application does not need to be a novel. There is no word/sentence/paragraph minimum on any of these fields. However, for your own benefit, do take some time to think with this. The more detail (not to be confused with length) that you put into a character's personality and bio, the better the chance you have of being accepted.
The best applications are usually not those that ramble on for pages and pages, but those really well thought-out apps that cover all of the important details on a character in a few good-sized paragraphs.
All application fields MUST be filled in unless otherwise specified.
Name: Your character's full name.
Email: This is only so that I have a means of contacting you. It will not be stored or given out anywhere else.
Gender: Self-explanatory.
Species: Self-explanatory. See rules for banned species.
Age: Your character's age, not yours.
Place of Birth: Self-explanatory. (For humans, fill in country as well as state and/or city.)
Military/Civilian Branch: Fill in as necessary. If your character is a civilian, this might be FBI, CIA, NSA, etc. For military characters, choose the appropriate branch (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, etc.) and specify the country (USA, Australia, The Federated States of Micronesia...) Bear in mind, however, that most military personnel on the expedition are American.
Military Status: Non-military folks, simply select "civilian". Military personnel choose between "enlisted" and "officer". Do not give yourself a military rank. This will be given to you after you are accepted into the game.
Position: Refers to your character's occupation. (This may involve more than one, for example an archaeologist may also be qualified as a linguist.) Select from the list, or specify in the text box. Remember, "Colonel" is not a position, it's a rank. To see what positions are in demand, click here. For brief descriptions of various positions, go here.
Placing: Atlantis personnel choose between "field team" or "base staff". Field staff are assigned to a specific team and travel offworld on a regular basis, whereas base staff are situated at Atlantis but may travel offworld with another team whenever they're needed. Non-Atlantis personnel (generally aliens) may select "N/A". (NB: Base staff includes Atlantis Base Security.)
ATA Gene: Fairly self-explanatory. Applies only to humans from Earth.
Appearance: Self-explanatory. You're welcome to submit a link to a photo, in addition to a written physical description. This should be written in complete sentences.
Personality: The basic personality of your character - attitudes, demeanour, sense of humour, weaknesses, quirks, etc. This should be of a reasonable length and written in complete sentences.
Bio: Your character's history. Childhood, friends, family, defining events, education, experience, achievements, and anything else of note. This should be of a reasonable length and written in complete sentences.
Sample Post: Provide a writing sample of 100-150 words (or more, if you like!). Just a reminder, this field is compulsory. You're welcome to use a post that you've already written for another game, but if you do it's helpful if you can provide a link to the original post.
