joshua bashir;
Name: Joshua Bashir
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Age: 29
Place of Birth: USA
Rank: Sergeant
Branch: United States Army
Position: Medic, Echo Team
Appearance: Josh has an open and friendly face, which easily betrays his emotions. His dark eyes, skin and hair are the result or his mixed Middle Eastern (father) and White American (mother) heritage. He keeps his body in good shape and is overall a generally good-looking sort. These days he is most comfortable in his army fatigues, or, when out of uniform, he will usually be seen wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
During his many travels, Josh has maintained a set of diaries, in which he describes and draws the plants, animals and people and their customs as he comes across them. He always keeps his latest diary on his person and is apt to start scribbling at any moment.
Personality: Josh is one of those people who can literally never keep still and hates being idle. His generally attractive physique, for instance, is due not to any deliberate fitness effort, but rather due to his general need to always be active and his general dislike of the indoors. When he finds himself in a "boring" situation, using his quick wits, Josh is usually able to scrounge up something to relieve said boredom and will sometimes attempt to drag people around him into his efforts, but is also happy to do things on his own.
Josh has been described by his fellow soldiers as a happy-go-lucky character. He is almost always affable and it is generally hard to make this man your enemy. That is as long as you don't attempt to give him a desk job. While he is easy company, he is also perfectly happy to be alone and in general prefers his own company or the company of a small group to a large crowd any day. Needless to say the trip to the Pegasus galaxy proved to be quite arduous and tedious for this man.
Bio: Joshua Bashir was born in Texas, where his family had purchased a small horse ranch in the hopes of bring their two children up in a healthier environment. It was here that he gained his love of nature, animals and the outdoors and he dreamed of being a country vet.
However, when he was 15 his parents were forced to sell the ranch, due to financial difficulties. They moved back to LA to be nearer to other family members, including Josh's sister Kara (who had long ago decided she was not a country girl and moved out) and her family, and while Josh coped with city life he never really got used to it. He also didn't fit in with the social groups at school and was readily teased for his Texan accent, which he quickly learnt to tone down so that by the end of high school it was barely noticeable.
He finished high school with reasonable grades, but nowhere near that needed for veterinary college, and so he trained as a nurse instead. His aim in taking this career path was two-fold; firstly to get as far away form LA and the big city life as possible (there was always a shortage of medical staff in the country) and secondly he liked working with and helping people.
Shortly after Josh had graduated from nursing, he took off on what started as a holiday, but stretched into several months of backpacking through Africa and then Central America.
When his money ran out, he reluctantly returned to the US to look for work, where he was quickly recruited by Médecins Sans Frontières (also known as MSF or Doctors Without Borders). He worked for the charity for three years, on a minimal living allowance, as part of a team providing medical care in some of the poorest nations on Earth. Along the way he also picked up a fair understanding of French, since it was the main language spoken by many of the doctors and nurses with which he worked.
Eventually at the urging of his family, Josh returned once again to the US and found himself again looking for work. He eventually decided to sign up with the Army, where after a year of general military training, followed by several months of specialist training, he began work in his new position as a field medic. Josh excelled in this role, particularly rescue and cleanup missions, in which soldiers needed to be quickly stabilized for transport, often under intense conditions or heavy fire. His time spent in MSF made him immune to poor working conditions and incredibly good at saving lives by making do with whatever happened to be at hand. Best of all, he found he enjoyed the work.
Obviously his exemplary field record didn't go completely unnoticed for, out of the blue, Josh was suddenly offered a new posting. The man offering the position, a General O'Neill, stated in the letter only that he would "be able to explore whole new worlds". That was enough for the ever curious Josh and he soon found himself standing in a base deep under a mountain, his mouth dropping open in awe at the site of an activated Stargate, as it was explained to him that he was looking at the event horizon of a wormhole to another planet. His actual role in the SGC was basically the same as it had always been in the army, although now rather than walking, driving or flying on his way to aid in a mission, he stepped through the Stargate.
Eventually he found himself signing up for what was to be the mission of a lifetime, heading to a Lost City in a whole new star system called Pegasus and boarding a ship called Daedalus.
