Name: Dr. Elizabeth Siobhan Gallagher
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Age: 28
Place of Birth: Newtonabbey, Ireland
Rank: Civilian (C2)
Branch: Civilian
Position: Astrophysicist, Delta Team
Appearance: Bessie is of an average height and weight, with bright grey eyes and medium length, curly brown hair, usually worn in a short pony tail on the top of her head. She has very rosy cheeks, in contrast with a light complexion.
Personality: Somewhat bubbly, when the time calls for it, usually Bessie just 'goes with the flow'. Always pleasent enough to give a quick nod or 'hello' to a passer by, whether or not she knows them at all. However, it isn't out of the ordinary for Bessie to start snapping at people for no apparent reason - only when she's having a bad day, of course, but they wouldn't know that.
Bio: Elizabeth Siobhan Gallagher was born in 1976, the fourth child of Riona and Quaid. By 1982, their family was complete, and with six siblings the word 'unique' took on a whole new meaning in the Gallagher family home.
For a long time, Bessie felt insignificant in her parent's eyes; always thinking that she had the potential if only she were given an opportunity to grow without having to compete with so everyone else. So, though Bessie was never agressively competitive, she found herself interested in many sports competitions, which didn't last very long. The fact that she had four brothers meant she was never bored and always had to be energetic. Up until her teenage years, Bessie idolised every person older than she was, simply because they, knowing more than she, could teach her many important lessons. However, she soon realised that it was possible for these people to actually be wrong.
By the time Bessie was fourteen, her two oldest brothers, Brandan and Justin were old enough to make a life of their own and move out. For a very long time, the family saw none of Brandan and very little of Justin. It appeared that Brandan, their oldest brother - the one who was supposed to take care of them - never suffered from homesickness. Bessie appeared to be suffering Brandan's homesickness, crying her eyes out before she went to sleep. Eventually, resentment of him for never coming to see his family took over. Justin would often come for dinner and then stay for a while after, just letting everyone know how he was going and not giving them the opportunity to miss him.
Something in Bessie changed and she became so withdrawn, that a simple "hello" to her parents on returning from school was difficult and cold. Soon her sister Kelly, two years her senior, seemed to be growing up too fast for Bessie's liking. Though she wouldn't admit it, Bessie found that hating these people rather than missing them would be a lot easier when they all eventually grew up and moved away. She could never understand why no one else was so hurt by Brandan's abrupt exit from their lives.
During her teenage years, the Gallaghers would see snippets of Brandan after months of absence. When he came to visit, Bessie made sure she was busily reading or doing her Math, giving her a reason not to be disturbed. She studied so hard in an attempt to make her work the most important thing, rather than her family.
Twenty-year-old Bessie had found a place out of home and was preparing to move to the USA for further study and research. At this time she had a much better relationship with her parents, previously realising that it wasn't their fault for any misfourtunes in her life. Her two little brothers, Regan and Owen, had become very important to her, as they were always by her side; dispite the massive age differences, the three were extremely close.
Five years later it was time for Bessie to be noticed for her capabilities and years of hard work. Luckily it was a government organisation, and not a university, which requested Bessie's tallents. As a university professor, Bessie was likely to be harsh, unfair and horribly cold to everyone. When she was introduced into the new environment of the secret military organisation, she was terrified. This was the most exciting and terrifying time of Bessie's life. She was introduced to the Stargate Project - a new and wonderful world of it's own; if that wasn't enough, she was also introduced to Squadron Leader Brandan Gallagher, who had just returned from a special mission.
Brandan and Bessie finally understood each other after a few months of working closely together. They both managed the rare visit back home, where, by this time, only their parents were still living. These three years became the best years of Bessie's life - she had learnt some valuable lessons, not to mention the fact that she had gained a really hot, American boyfriend.
Though she hadn't been around for long, Bessie became an obvious choice for the Atlantis mission. She had never been sent on something this big before, and jumped at the opportunity put in front of her. The farewell to her family back in Ireland was almost heartbreaking, but she had to go and tell them in person. For some reason, Bessie had waited longer to tell her boyfriend of two years, Aaron.
His reaction to the news had been to admit he was about to propose to her that day; and then he decided that he still wanted to propose. A very conflicted, confused Bessie headed off on the mission lead by Elizabeth Weir, always wondering where Aaron would be when she came home.
June 2005 - Bessie was promoted to Tier 2 Civilian.
