jiao siong;
Name: Jiao Siong

Gender: Female

Species: Human

Age: 33

Place of Birth: Shanghai, China

Rank: Civilian (C1)

Branch: Civilian

Position: Nurse, Base Staff

Appearance: Narrow, brown eyes, with quite long, dark hair. She has a short frame, as is usual to her race, but isn't as petite as one would imagine. Usually her already attractive face is cast in an amused smile, and very rarely does she frown (for reasons beyond the fact that it will cause wrinkles).

Personality: For her particularly difficult, frantic upbringing, Jiao has a very fun-loving attitude. Actually, compared to most, she has a fun-loving attitude. She loves a joke, making fun only of those she knows will understand. She is quite compassionate and understanding, and outgoing, never failing to do her best to make everyone else feel good. Of course, there are many that Jiao sees fit to torture in her own way - that's not to say she gets out the thumb screws or anything like that, of course. She finds it amusing that if someone is particularly annoying, or easy to annoy she will do so. Apart from that, she is particularly caring.

Bio: Jiao was born, and grew up, in Shanghai, where she lived under the communist regime until she was seven. Eventually, her parents decided to move out of China, and it took some time before they decided upon England as the prefect place to take up residence. Jiao didn't understand at the time why, but after her baby brother was born, she realised that her parents were aching to have another child. For eight years they had waited, and finally got their chance when they became British citizens. Jiao grew up in a place, therefore, where she didn't exactly fit in. Her childhood was full of broken friendships, never knowing if the other person wanted to be friends, but couldn't because of peer pressure or if it was superficial. Sadly, learning to accept the fact that she could never hope to find real friends, Jiao went through her years in secondary school keeping herself withdrawn and protected from others. Her parents didn't understand what she was doing, nor did she really let them in on her own troubles, having more than enough themselves.

Of course, since people were growing out of childhood, Jiao did manage to find a few rather good friends in secondary school. She managed to stay away from the stereotypical teenage angst period, even if some of her friends didn't. When she left, Jiao had made up her mind to study medicine at any university (not much caring for prestige, but incidentally she did receive an exceedingly high mark and ended up studying medicine, and graduating from Cambridge. For some time, Jiao worked around at various British hospitals; quite enjoying her work, but eventually she found it didn't really meet her idea of accomplishment.

By some stroke of luck, or sign of some sort, Jiao came across a small child who was dreadfully ill, but the parents couldn't afford to pay for any treatment. Feeling awful and seeing the horrifying injustice of the situation, Jiao took it upon herself to help out the child. Sadly, of course, one nurse's help was not enough to totally eradicate the sickness, although the parents did claim afterwards that Jiao had helped their child more than anything else in the world. This was what gave Jiao the inspiration to travel overseas.

By some strange twist of fate (and much to the woman's confusion) she found herself caught up with the army, helping out with wounded soldiers as well as sick children in war torn countries. Her hard work was recognised by the US Air Force, much to Jiao's surprise, and she was called upon to join them for a "special mission" of some sort at a base she'd never heard of. Needless to say (but it will be said anyway, because clearly there was a need to say it) Jiao was sufficiently freaked out with being introduced to space travel. It was never something she had ever focused her life around, or even really thought of. She did recommend a friend from University who she remembered was quite a talented Astrophysicist, but she was assured the mission had all the Astrophysicists it needed. It took a rather long amount of time for Jiao to make up her mind. First, she gave them a firm "no", but they allowed her extra time to reconsider, although she assured them she didn't require it.

When Jiao met some of the other medical staff who were to be on the mission, however, she found a change of heart occurring. Some strange Irish woman she got talking to ranted on about the extraordinary once in a lifetime chance they were being offered, and Jiao suddenly realised that there was no way in the world she could ever say "no" to such a request. This was, of course, ignoring the fact that she'd already done so. Anyway, she changed her mind and went along happily, and excitedly.
