This list of positions is by no means comprehensive, and is only intended as a guide. If you've got something else in mind that isn't listed here, please feel free to put it down! Position openings can be be found here.
Anthropologist - specialises in ancient cultures, usually having a wide knowledge of many cultures, though can focus on one particular culture.
Archaeologist - an anthropologist who studies prehistoric life and culture by the recovery and examination of remaining material evidence, such as graves, buildings, tools, and pottery.
Astrophysicist - specialises in the physics of space and celestial bodies. Astrophysicists generally bear some level of expertise in the workings of the Stargate system.
Biologist - the biologist specialises in matters relating to organic compounds and beings. In the absence of a team medic, they are responsible for basic first aid in emergency scenarios.
Chemist - a scientist specialising in the study of the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter, especially of atomic and molecular systems.
Commanding Officer - responsible for the safety and welfare of the team. In the field, they are in charge at all times, except in relation to the team's health over which the medic can have authority. The CO is appointed by yours truly.
Diplomat - responsible for establishing peaceful contact with the people of other worlds - they are, in essence, the voice of the team.
Engineer - applies scientific and mathematical principles to solve practical problems.
Geologist - a scientist who studies the origin, history, and structure of the solid matter of a celestial body.
Liaison - a representative of a particular country, or (more likely) a planet or alien race.
Linguist - a specialist in the area of languages; the lingust is responsible for all matters concerning translation and communication with alien races encountered.
Medic - responsible for the health and medical stability of the team. When a team member is wounded or sick, the medic may take jurisdiction over the patient -- overriding the CO -- however, they may only do so on medical grounds May be a base position (as a doctor or nurse in the medical bay) or a field position.
Physicist - similar to the astrophysicist, without so wide a stellar understanding.
Psychologist - a specialist trained in the study of the emotional and behavioral characteristics of an individual, a group, or an activity. The psychologist is responsible for the emotional wellbeing of the expedition members. This is generally a base position.
Second In Command - usually given as a secondary position in addition to other duties. The second highest ranking team member, the 2IC's main duties include assisting the CO, acting as a scout or lookout and keeping track of the equipment. Appointed by the mod.
Specialist - a specialist generally has one area of expertise, for example: technology, weapons, combat, communications, engineering, alien races etc.
Strategist - an expert in strategy, they plan, scheme and provide new possibilities for courses of action. This is usually a base position, however it is possible for a strategist to attain a permanent field assignment.
Technician - similar to a specialist, however tending to be more "hands-on" and are able to repair things quite easily. The position is usually focussed in areas of engineering, technology, electronics and suchlike.
